With an area of around 47 square kilometers, Ammersee is the third largest lake in Bavaria - after Lake Chiemsee and Lake Starnberg. The beautiful landscape has previously attracted artists from the big cities of Munich and Augsburg to this enchanting place, and now a large number of photography enthusiasts come here all year round.
The weather app predicted intense red skies in the region around Lake Ammersee this morning, so let's go!
Arriving at the idyllic Schondorf promenade on the west side of the lake an hour before sunrise, despite the still prevailing darkness, you could already marvel at a long reddish band of clouds against the bright yellow shimmering horizon in the east.
That morning, too, it was true that when storms approach, there is usually an impressive celestial spectacle. When the clouds approaching from the west are illuminated by the sun slanting below the horizon due to their enormous height, colorful dawns are almost guaranteed.
The well-known boathouses next to the steamer jetty in Schondorf are a popular photo opportunity. If you stand in front of them, the sun rises behind them in winter. So I placed my camera primarily at this location, hoping for photogenic and atmospheric images. The intense and dewy dawn spread over the entire lake and covered almost the entire sky. Slowly but surely it turned a reddish yellow just before sunrise. True moments of happiness, not just for landscape photographers.
The Andechs Monastery stands on the Holy Mountain on the eastern shore of Lake Ammersee, making it visible from afar.
A wide view into the Bavarian foothills of the Alps provides a magnificent Alpine panorama, and not just in the morning.
Before the rising sun got caught in the rolling dark clouds, it shone wonderfully intensely for a few minutes and illuminated the entire lake landscape in a fantastic golden light.
This last day of the year once again showed that photography ultimately represents so much more than the perfect photo in the perfect light. I had so much fun doing what I did.
To experience and spend such a wonderful daybreak in an enchanting place in the great outdoors is simply fantastic!
