July 23, 2025 - Magical Sunrise at the Quarry Lake in Eggenstein

It was still quiet and calm outside; the weather app had predicted a red sky for this morning.
A quick glance out the window not only made me hopeful, it also made my heart rate race.
What I saw there was a clear sign that I would soon witness and capture a spectacular sunrise:
I spied a wide, intensely orange gap between the gray, continuous cloud cover and the horizon. This phenomenon can be a promising sign of an intense sunrise or sunset. Gaps in the cloud cover, especially near the horizon, allow sunlight to directly reach the underside of the clouds.
I immediately set off for the quarry lake in Eggenstein, which was just a 15-minute drive away.

The sun slowly began to rise, and I knew I was about to witness a special moment. When I arrived at the lake, I was met with a sight I won't soon forget.

In the foreground were old wooden boats, looking like skeletons from another era.
As the sun slowly rose over the horizon, the sky began to transform into a kaleidoscope of colors. The boats, clouds, and vegetation were reflected in the water, and it seemed as if nature itself was creating a work of art. The colors were so intense that they seemed to come alive.

This beautiful and very special sunrise was not only a visual experience, but also an emotional one. It was as if nature was calling me to be still and enjoy the moment. The stillness of the morning and the beauty of nature around me made me forget for a moment that I was part of a hectic world.

As the sun rose higher and slowly disappeared behind the clouds, the magic of the moment began to fade. The colors became less intense, and the boats and vegetation lost their reflections in the water. But the memory and images of this magical sunrise will remain.

While my photos captured some extraordinary moments, they can only begin to capture the magic of this morning. I hope they can convey a small part of it.
