Giesen Quarry Lake near Hochstetten in the Karlsruhe district is a true paradise for nature lovers and photographers.
After gravel extraction, it was recultivated as a swimming and natural lake and is characterized by its gently sloping beach and well-maintained lawns with sunny and shady areas.
Fishing is permitted only in the northern part, while diving is allowed within the southern swimming zone.
That morning, I positioned myself on the southwestern shore of the lake, directly opposite the Liedolsheim fishing lodge, to photograph the sunrise.
The atmosphere was unique, as a southerly wind had carried Saharan dust across the Alps to Germany.

The dawn was intense and colorful; tiny dust particles scattered the sunlight, creating a breathtaking display of colors in the sky.

The sun rose slowly over the horizon, bathing the lake in a warm, golden light.
I had settled down on the shore, covered with brown autumn leaves, and captured the colorful snapshots, which changed every minute, with my camera.
The stillness of the morning was broken only by birdsong and the gentle lapping of the water.

Giesen Quarry Lake is an important habitat for many waterfowl. Ducks, geese, swans, and other species come here to forage and find a safe haven.
The birds were active and lively; some were swimming on the water, others were flying over the lake, and still others were perched in the trees along the shore.

The photos I took that morning showcase the beauty and diversity of Giesen Quarry Lake. From the colorful sunrise shots to the intimate moments of the waterfowl, every moment was unique and worth capturing.

Giesen Quarry Lake is a beautiful place that delights every nature lover and photographer. The combination of breathtaking scenery and diverse waterfowl makes it a must-see for anyone who wants to experience the beauty of nature.
