Lake Limides, a tiny mountain lake hidden near the Falzarego Pass, is a true paradise for landscape photographers. Its clear waters and the majestic reflections of the Tofana massif make it a unique subject.

The 30-minute hike to Lago di Limides is best started directly at the Falzarego Pass (parking lot 46.518730, 12.009392). From the pass, hike up the clearly visible and well-signposted trail no. 441 through lush meadows.

At a junction where the path climbs to the right up to the Croda Negra, keep left and after a few minutes you'll reach the idyllically situated Lago di Limides.

From here, you can enjoy a magnificent panorama of the Tofana mountain range. Depending on the water level of the lake and when there's enough wind, the surrounding mountains are reflected in the lake.

If parking is poor at the Falzarego Pass, we recommend driving a short distance down towards Cortina d'Ampezzo and parking at the Rifugio Col Gallina (parking lot 46.519604, 12.019213).

From the Rifugio Col Gallina, trail no. 419 leads up to Monte Averau over gentle grassy slopes. After about 45 minutes, you reach the small Limides Lake, in which the Tofana di Rozes, among other peaks, is reflected.

You can also enjoy views of the Lagazuoi and one of the best views of the Averau.

It is said that the purest of hearts can see the image of an anguana, a figure from Ladin mythology, when gazing at the reflections in the water of the small lake.

The sun was already beginning to set, bathing the sky in a kaleidoscope of colors. The clouds were like a work of art reflected on the lake's surface. The reflections were so clear and detailed that it seemed as if the sky itself were in the water.

I sat down on the shore, set my camera on the tripod, and repeatedly pressed the shutter button, enjoying the stillness of the evening. Magical moments that I wanted to capture forever.

Three days later, I returned to the small mountain lake, this time on a cloudless morning. The sun was just beginning to rise, bathing the surroundings in a warm glow.

The larches surrounding the lake had already put on their first autumnal costumes and glowed in magnificent colors.

The first rays of sunlight hit the trees, making them glow like fire. It was a breathtaking sight that I couldn't photograph enough. The colors were so intense and vibrant that it seemed as if nature itself had created a work of art.

Lago di Limides is a little gem in the Italian Dolomites that is sure to delight any nature lover. The unique combination of clear waters, majestic mountains, and breathtaking scenery makes it a must-see for any landscape photographer.

It wasn't the first time, and certainly won't be the last, that I visited this beautiful place.
